Legal Matters
Licensing
Deep-Sky Planner 4 includes a new licensing technology. It
is intended to reduce software piracy with minimal impact on legitimate
users. Hacking, cracking and outright theft are the problems targeted
- not legitimate use.
The license agreement permits an individual user to install the product on
multiple computer systems owned by the licensee. This
accommodates users who may have systems for home, office and field
use. The license is not transferable.
After installing the product you will need to activate the license within
30 days. If you do not activate within that time period, the product
will stop working.
Activation
Activation is done by using the Software Activator program included with
the product. This program requires you to enter your Product Key
number found inside your original product case.
Software Activator composes an e-mail message containing
the Product Key and a computed code that uniquely identifies your computer,
and sends the message to Knightware using your e-mail program. An activation code is returned via e-mail,
usually within 24 hours of your request.
Once you receive the code, you use Software Activator to register the
code on your computer which activates your license. The process is designed to be as
secure and painless as possible. Neither the Product Key, the computer
identification code, nor the activation code contains personally
identifiable information.
Important points
- Installing updates to Deep-Sky Planner 4 (e.g., 4.2, 4.3) does
not require purchasing an additional license or additional activation.
Updates are provided to licensed users free of charge.
Free updates include bug fixes, feature enhancements
and new features
- Installing an upgrade to a new product version (e.g., 5.0) may require
a new license and activation.
- Upgrading your Windows Operating System where a previous installation
of Deep-Sky Planner 4 is retained does not require an additional

- Installing the software on a new computer requires activation

- Some changes to your computer hardware (for example, a
power surge damages computer components) made after installation may
require a new activation. Activation requests arising from this
situation are expected and will be fulfilled. An unusually large
number of requests may be interpreted as a violation of the license
agreement. If you are experiencing unusual
hardware problems that result in a large number of activation requests, please
contact Knightware to discuss your situation.
