How can I publish the Graphical Darkness report to the web? |
||||
The Graphical Darkness Report shows at a glance when the sun rises & sets, when the moon rises and sets, and when there is astronomical darkness (sun at least 18° below the horizon.) Creating a darkness report for an entire month is a very efficient way to determine when you can expect some astronomical darkness for observing. These reports can be a nice resource for club or star party web sites too.
Step one: Create a graphical darkness report for your location and range of dates. The date period that you select will determine how long the web page will be. If you want to have darkness data covering a whole year, you may want to create a report for each month so that viewers of your web page do not have to scroll through a long web page to find the date of interest. Step two: Save the graphical darkness report to an HTML web page and its associated graphics. You can do this by selecting File | Export to HTML on the main menu of Deep-Sky Planner or click the 'HTML' button on the tool bar. Next you see the usual Windows Save As dialog box where you choose the file name and folder where you want to store your web page. The file extension should be either htm or html. When you press OK to save the report as a web page, the graphics shown on the report are stored in the same folder that you selected for the web page. For example, you might specify FebDarkness.htm in folder C:\My Web Site. The HTML export operation will create a file called FebDarkness.htm in C:\My Web Site and several jpeg files in C:\My Web Site. Step three: Publish the files to your web site. You must copy the htm and all of the associated jpeg files to the same web directory. The jpeg files have the same name as the htm file but they have a number appended - for example, FebDarkness.htm is accompanied by FebDarkness0.jpg, FebDarkness1.jpg and so on through FebDarkness28.jpg. An example graphical darkness report published to the web is shown here. |
